| Helander Dance Theater presents: Empty Spaces April 23,24,25,30 and May 1,2 (Fridays/Saturdays 8pm; Sundays 7pm) |
Totally Empty, Unadorned, and Complete
"...all out and engaging dance in solos, duets, trios, and quartets, all held together by tableware. Solos and trios are at one moment contemplative - often in unison - and then suddenly they explode into intimacy that gets so close it becomes conflict. ...it is well worth your time and money."

A big thank you to Tebo Development for donating the space for us!
Empty Spaces will be an exploration of the uncharted inner terrain that exists in all of us and the potency, hopefulness, and sorrow embodied in these spaces. From the shuttered storefronts on our streets to the internal emptiness we experience as we try to make meaning of our lives and communities, Empty Spaces will go straight to the heart of what remains when existing physical and psychological structures are stripped away, either through circumstances or by intention. Picture a local building abandoned in the recent economic distress. What new inspirations, dreams, and opportunities can be uncovered there? Through experimental music and soundscapes, evocative choreography, sculpture, and multimedia, the artists will create a site-specific performance that asks each of us to confront the fear and embrace the creative possibilities of the blank slate.
*Sunday, April 25th will be a benefit performance, $1 donated/ticket sold for the
Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA).

Helander Dance Theater
Colorado-based Helander Dance Theater was founded by Danelle Helander, Artistic Director & Choreographer in 1980. With a reputation for multi-faceted artistry and striking choreography, HDT's mission is to make a vital contribution to our global community using dance as a vehicle for creating greater understanding, sharing & healing. Danelle was given the role of Ambassador during HDT’s Sister Cities tour within Tajikistan, Nicaragua, Japan and Tibet collaboration with the University of Colorado and the Mali Assistance Project allowed HDT to use performance as a vehicle for providing needed supplies to Mali villages. The company has also partnered with Global Response to resolve an oil drilling issue in Costa Rica. In performance, HDT is eclectic, dramatic, sometimes whimsical & always thought provoking.
